About Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon Whiskey
“Our Straight Bourbon Whiskey displays a beautiful amber color and releases wonderful vanilla and butterscotch notes. It has a smooth, balanced taste with a slightly peppery finish. It mixes extremely well in classic cocktails like Old-Fashioned’s, or simply enjoyed neat. Bottled at 92 proof.”

We call ourselves Batchers in honor of the early farmers of Northwest Connecticut, a region that became known for its ample yield of wheat, corn and barley. Coaxing these crops from the rocky terrain took a certain type of grit and determination.
Today, we take the best our local farmers have to offer and distill fine craft spirits, one batch at a time. They do the growing. We do the batching. And you get a little share in this luscious little section of Connecticut called Litchfield County. Come taste The Spirit of Hard Work®.

00:00:01,500 –> 00:00:03,266
Hi there I’m Suzanne
2
00:00:03,266 –> 00:00:05,299
and this is Evan from The Crafty Cask
3
00:00:05,300 –> 00:00:06,866
and today we are here to talk to you about
4
00:00:06,866 –> 00:00:08,333
Litchfield Distillery
5
00:00:08,333 –> 00:00:09,666
Straight Bourbon Whiskey
6
00:00:09,900 –> 00:00:11,266
for those of you who don’t know
7
00:00:11,333 –> 00:00:13,133
Straight Bourbon is an indication of age
8
00:00:13,133 –> 00:00:15,599
Bourbon doesn’t have any minimum aging requirements
9
00:00:15,600 –> 00:00:17,300
but Straight Bourbon needs to be
10
00:00:17,333 –> 00:00:19,799
aged for a minimum of two years
11
00:00:19,900 –> 00:00:23,133
and while all Bourbon has to be at least 51% corn
12
00:00:23,133 –> 00:00:25,533
the other 49% can be other grains
13
00:00:25,533 –> 00:00:28,399
and this particular one is a mix of corn
14
00:00:28,533 –> 00:00:29,899
rye and barley
15
00:00:30,966 –> 00:00:32,799
should we take a little sniff yes
16
00:00:38,800 –> 00:00:41,000
so some distinctive sweetness on the nose
17
00:00:41,000 –> 00:00:44,266
kind of some honey caramel notes sure
18
00:00:44,266 –> 00:00:46,666
I get a little banana
19
00:00:46,733 –> 00:00:49,299
like almost like banana flambe or like a sweetened
20
00:00:49,300 –> 00:00:51,300
like banana caramelized
21
00:00:51,300 –> 00:00:53,066
yeah kind of a caramelized banana
22
00:00:59,933 –> 00:01:01,766
mmm and on the palate
23
00:01:01,766 –> 00:01:03,099
it packs a like
24
00:01:03,100 –> 00:01:05,266
spicy punch on the front of my palate
25
00:01:05,266 –> 00:01:08,599
but then as I continue to let it look in like
26
00:01:08,800 –> 00:01:09,800
linger in my mouth
27
00:01:09,800 –> 00:01:11,500
the sweetness really shines through
28
00:01:11,500 –> 00:01:13,466
it’s a really nice kind of spicy
29
00:01:13,466 –> 00:01:15,166
sweet thing going on for me
30
00:01:15,166 –> 00:01:17,466
yeah I’m getting some kind of nuttiness
31
00:01:17,466 –> 00:01:19,466
um almost uh
32
00:01:19,733 –> 00:01:20,766
I was like a little
33
00:01:20,766 –> 00:01:23,233
kind of coffee undercurrent there as well
34
00:01:23,366 –> 00:01:27,066
um imagine that might be due to the compliments of the
35
00:01:27,600 –> 00:01:29,900
mash bill with the rye and the barley
36
00:01:29,900 –> 00:01:31,166
sure yeah now
37
00:01:31,166 –> 00:01:32,466
the fun thing about Litchfield Distillery is
38
00:01:32,466 –> 00:01:34,066
they don’t actually call themselves distillers
39
00:01:34,066 –> 00:01:35,799
they call themselves batchers
40
00:01:35,800 –> 00:01:37,466
um and that’s an honor of
41
00:01:37,466 –> 00:01:39,466
the early farmers in northwest Connecticut
42
00:01:39,466 –> 00:01:41,933
I guess they used to call themselves batches back then
43
00:01:41,933 –> 00:01:43,766
um and so they are very dedicated
44
00:01:43,766 –> 00:01:45,299
to sourcing local ingredients
45
00:01:45,300 –> 00:01:47,466
and taking the best of what they can find locally
46
00:01:47,533 –> 00:01:49,166
and batching it in small batches
47
00:01:49,166 –> 00:01:51,599
to bring you a delicious taste of their area
48
00:01:51,866 –> 00:01:54,833
I can see this going really nicely in uh
49
00:01:55,266 –> 00:01:57,633
well probably a lot of different
50
00:01:58,100 –> 00:02:00,900
common whiskey and Bourbon cocktails
51
00:02:00,900 –> 00:02:03,466
um but I can really appreciate this in
52
00:02:03,466 –> 00:02:04,499
like a boulevardier
53
00:02:04,933 –> 00:02:07,699
where you got some of the bitterness of the Campari
54
00:02:07,700 –> 00:02:09,833
or the aperitif that you’re gonna use
55
00:02:09,966 –> 00:02:12,333
to offset the sweetness here
56
00:02:12,333 –> 00:02:16,199
and create a little bit of the underlying spice
57
00:02:16,200 –> 00:02:17,400
yeah absolutely
58
00:02:17,400 –> 00:02:18,500
but honestly
59
00:02:18,700 –> 00:02:20,266
sips straight beautifully as well
60
00:02:20,266 –> 00:02:21,566
yeah like it really is a nice
61
00:02:21,566 –> 00:02:22,333
straight sipper
62
00:02:22,333 –> 00:02:25,099
but it would perform very nicely in cocktails
63
00:02:25,100 –> 00:02:26,700
and I definitely like things that have a little
64
00:02:26,700 –> 00:02:27,966
bit of extra spice in cocktails
65
00:02:27,966 –> 00:02:29,466
and this does have a nice little bit of spice
66
00:02:29,466 –> 00:02:30,599
considering development yeah
67
00:02:30,600 –> 00:02:32,300
the balance of sweetness to spice
68
00:02:32,366 –> 00:02:33,866
and I guess again
69
00:02:33,966 –> 00:02:35,766
attributing that to the rye yeah
70
00:02:35,766 –> 00:02:36,766
is really nice in this
71
00:02:36,766 –> 00:02:37,999
yeah absolutely
72
00:02:38,266 –> 00:02:40,466
if you wanna give Litchfield Distillery
73
00:02:40,466 –> 00:02:42,533
Straight Bourbon a try
74
00:02:42,533 –> 00:02:45,099
we hope you enjoy it as much as we are cheers
