Grab your SipScout Rum Tasting Kit (will there be some cocktail accoutrements too? You’ll have to wait and see!) and join us for a night of deliciousness. If you still think rum is only appropriate for tiki drinks or rum and cokes, think again! We’re diving deep into a fantastic, and often under appreciated spirit this month with deep history profound meaning to our country. Why? Because rum was essentially the founding spirit of our great nation! In fact,
George Washington was quoted as saying in a letter in 1780: “Besides beef and pork, bread and flour, Rum is too material an article to be omitted.”(regarding the rations for troops coming from the Northern states)
And in 1781 John Adams wrote to a friend: “I know not why we would blush to confess that molasses [the main ingredient in many rums] was an essential ingredient in American independence. Many great events have proceeded from much smaller causes.”
